A superb selection of quotations on global warming, almost all of them (save from James Hansen) new to me, courtesy of The Wall Street Journal. The first, in some ways, is the best:
1979 “It is the sense of the scientific
community that carbon dioxide from unrestrained combustion of fossil
fuels potentially is the most important environmental issue facing
mankind.”
–U.S. Department of Energy report, April 2
Wow. We knew that then?
What happened?
I remember having global warming explained to me in about 1967 or’68. My friend’s dad was a chemist. He gave a pretty complete explanation of the theories behind global warming and suggested that it was probably already too late, that we would grow up with this problem.
