The Offical Beer of Yosemite

Having successfully privatized a great deal of access to undeveloped national forest and BLM lands, the GOP now is targeting the national parks. According to Jeff Ruch, director of Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility:

“This starts a slow motion commercialization of the national park system. What will be allowed stops just short of licensing ads for ‘The Official Beer of Yosemite’ or ‘ Old Faithful, Brought to You by Viagara.’”

Judith Lewis has more on this latest horror, as does the National Parks Traveler. Both writers somehow retain their sense of humor. That’s more than I can manage this morning, so I’m going to shut up now.

  1. Don’t worry Kit — in 10 years it’ll just seem natural to you. Sort of like having all of our public buildings named after Staples and Qualcomm. I was living in Minneapolis when our new basketball stadium was christened the Target Center. We thought it was horrifying, and suggested alternatives: K-Mart Kourt, Jiffy Lube Gardens, etc. Now no one even registers this stuff.
