President Struggles to Rebrand Himself as an Enviro

The political pundits haven’t noticed, probably because they habitually put the health of the planet at the bottom of their list of concerns, but  this week on national television David Letterman pointed out that the Current Occupant of the White House is trying to present himself as an Environmental President.

It’s a struggle, as you can see.

  1. Good morning Kit! Tried to make this comment on Grist, but, even when logged in, their system wouldn’t let me comment. Thought someone there should know …

Thank you for this hilarious video. At least Bush is now responding to the pressure to become more environmentally sensitive. In the past, he didn’t even feel he had to try. I call that progress!

  2. Hi Deborah! (Thanks for the comment; I would have replied earlier, but we were out of town.)

I too sometimes have problems logging into the Grist site. Don’t know why. All I can say is keep trying…they do respond to readers.

And I agree with you–better that the Current Occupant at least make an attempt to please enviros, than that he sneer at them (us). The next step is to hold him to his promises. Havel in Czechoslovakia believed in similarly insisting that the Communist government under which he lived (and was imprisoned) live up to its promises, no matter how cynically those promises were made, and by this method slowly but surely helped expose the corruption and uselessness of the power structure…which was peacefully overturned.
