Sunday Morning on the Planet: Antarctica

Don’t know if I’ll ever get to see this part of the world, but I love seeing pictures of it. There is no blue quite like the blue of deep ice. Courtesy of the Guardian, here’s a nice selection of photographs from a new book called "Antarctica: Exploring a Fragile Eden," by Angela and Jonathan Scott.

  1. We actually can all start reducing global warming today. Check out http://www.sce.com/pledge …by replacing at least one regular lightbulb with a CFL (compact fluorescent lightbulb), we can each educe our energy consumption enough to prevent the burning of nearly 500 pounds of coal over the lifetime of that one CFL! That reduction translates to 1,300 pounds LESS carbon dioxide and 20 pounds LESS sulfur dioxide released into our atmosphere. And that’s just one lightbulb.
